Bowery Gallery: New Paintings (2017)
646-230-6655, 530 West 25th 4th Floor, NYC
Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 11AM - 6PM
Three different series of paintings are presented in this exhibition.
The Glacier paintings imagine a strange polar landscape of icebergs, bears and a few people who are watching the world change. I chose the iceberg for its color and other world like beauty. Its threatened nature seemed an appropriate motif for our changing climate.
The figure paintings of models, friends and family represent my attempt to uncover the quotidian aspect of our lives. I've elaborated the studio setting, hinting at a narrative.
There are also New York City paintings, which present views and aspects of the city which consider our very constructed environment and how it affects our everyday lives.
In all of the paintings, the figures are reacting to the various forces in our world, as well as the forces of their own interior lives.
